Thinking about getting a tattoo in Toronto? Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, knowing how to prepare can make all the difference. At 46 Tattoo, we’re not just focused on great tattoos, we care just as much about your experience from start to finish.

Here’s how to get ready for your tattoo appointment, and what makes getting tattooed at our studio a little different from anywhere else.

• What to Do Before Your Tattoo Appointment

1. Start Moisturizing the Area
Well-hydrated skin takes ink more easily and heals better. We recommend moisturizing once or twice daily for a few days before your appointment. Just skip any lotion on the day of—clean skin is best.

2. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Your body handles pain better when you’re rested. Avoid staying up late, drinking heavily, or skipping sleep the night before your tattoo. You’ll thank yourself in the chair.

3. Eat Before You Arrive
This is especially important. Tattooing takes energy, and an empty stomach can leave you feeling lightheaded. Eat a balanced meal 1–2 hours before your session.

4. Stay Hydrated
Water helps your skin and your focus. Drink plenty of water the day before and day of your appointment for a smoother session and better healing.

5. Keep your day clear
Plan to take it easy after your appointment. Rushing to another engagement right after can cause stress, soreness, or neglect of proper aftercare.

• What to Expect at 46 Tattoo (That’s Different)

We’re Not Your Average Tattoo Studio
From the moment you walk in, we want you to feel welcome. Our shop is friendly, relaxed, and clean, but professional. Clients often tell us it feels more like visiting friends than walking into a business. We take the time to talk through your ideas, help you feel at ease, and make sure your session is memorable for the right reasons.

Appointments Are On Time and Personal
We work by appointment so your time is focused and unrushed. When you arrive (right on time, no need to come early), your artist will walk you through the design, answer your questions, and get you settled before we begin.

Snacks, Breaks & One Quiet Guest Welcome
If you're in for a longer session, feel free to bring a water bottle or snack. You’re welcome to take breaks, we’ll check in with you throughout. You can also bring one support person, especially if it’s your first time. We just ask that they respect the calm, focused vibe of the studio.

What to Wear
Dress comfortably and wear clothing that gives your artist access to the area being tattooed. We recommend something you don’t mind getting a little ink on, just in case.
